Ask your dermatologist about using retinoid such as Retin-A to treat freckles. Retinoids are compounds that are associated with Vitamin A and these have been found effective in treatment of freckles like for the acne. It comes with some side effects such as dryness in the skin and increased chances of sunburn.

This is an expensive medical procedure that is carried out to lighten freckles on various parts of the body. An expert dermatologist performs this procedure. Local anesthetic is used to numb the area of the skin that needs to be treated. Then top layers of the skin are removed with the laser. This therapy is painful and healing time can go up to 14 days or more.

Liquid nitrogen

Liquid nitrogen treatment is used to freeze the freckles. It is directly applied and forms blister that lifts freckle from the skin. This procedure is also painful and time consuming. The expert has to work on each freckle individually.

Chemical peel

In this method, several layers of the skin are peeled away. It helps reduce freckles and it takes 2 to 3 days or more to completely heal.

Bleaching agents are used to lighten freckles on the skin. These usually contain hydroquinone that helps fade skin tone. It slows down melanin production and lighten your freckles to your natural skin color. As a result, these are no more visible. It has some side effects including skin damage, irritation and fading of the surrounding area.

Apart from medical procedures, you can also try home remedies that are devoid of any chemicals and are not too expensive.

Lemon extract
